Success Stories

Since the inception of program in 2007, we have had many success stories. Here is a look on a few of them:

Sahil Kumar - Batch 2018
Software Engineer

Coming from a family of meager earnings, it was very difficult for my parents to send me to a good school. PYDS took this burden off their shoulders when I joined it. Studying here broadened my thinking, taught me incredible lessons and a different perspective. I believe our knowledge matters but the good impact we make on others’ lives counts more. The lesson, ‘Life is for Giving’, the motto of my School has always motivated me to work harder every day and do something different in life.

I clearly remember the day, 1st December 2008. Yes, you can mark it as a turning point in my life because this was the day when I joined PYDS. With time, I gained professional knowledge, but the way I developed co-scholastically and ethically makes me even prouder. When I look back in time and connect the dots, I understand it’s not my work alone but people like my teachers, mentors and donors like YDP, USA, who have helped me reach here.

It was in 2018 when I completed class XII, but the journey with PYDS continues. In August 2018, I joined DIT University to pursue my undergraduate course in BTech CSE (IBM specialization in Cloud Computing and virtualization). During the lockdown, I started solving coding questions and started learning JavaScript from online platforms like Youtube, Udemy, and Coursera. I completed four courses on MERN Stack, which improved my skills and in-depth knowledge of this field. I made an online shopping web application as my college project. At the beginning of the fourth year of my college, I got placed as a Software Development Engineer at PlaySimple Games, a gaming startup located in Bengaluru.

Shalini Sharma - Batch 2019
Packaging Management Associate

I am Shalini Sharma a student of class 12 Commerce. I come from a small village called Shigally. There are five members in my family; my father, mother, elder sister, younger brother and myself. My father is working as a gardener in Swami Sir’s house (Ex-Secretary of PYDS). My mother is homemaker. My elder sister is an ex-student of PYDS and is now pursuing her B.Com. My younger brother is also studying in PYDS in class 8.
I had joined PYDS in year 2009. I was a very shy girl at that time. In class 8 I was elected for a National Level Competition called Youth Leader. In this we have to choose a social issue and find a way to overcome it. Our topic was ‘Solid Waste Management’.

We worked on it for 6 months and then finally won the First Runners up trophy. Theater has been my passion from class 5 and I participated in all the annual day plays of the school. I have also participated in National Level street plays, organised by TGELF for 3 years and won 3 rd place in year 2016. State Level Dance Competitions, Plays, Olympiads, inter-house sports, debates, declamation, essay are some other competitions that I have
participated in and have secured 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd positions.

In 2017 my life took a big turn, I was selected to go to USA under Student Exchange Program. I was the only student from PYDS and whole Uttarakhand to win the scholarship for this program. Over there I did my high school and also participated in inter-cultural activities. I won a scholarship in an essay writing competition for BUBW Conference (Better Understanding Better World). The winner were taken to Disney Land, which was a memorable moment for me.

In 2019 I was selected as the Head Girl of the school.

I am very thankful to Youth Development Project, USA who have supported my journey by sponsoring my education.

Isha Batola - Batch 2021

Motivational story

Kritika lived with her parents in a rented accommodation in Rajpur, Dehradun, before she was shifted to the hostel at PYDS. The family is a native of Nepal and migrated to Dehradun in search of better living. Durga Bahadur works as a daily wage labour. He is employed for 22-23 days in a month due to the nature of his work that requires physical strength. Kritika’s grandparents live in their ancestral house in Nepal and do farming for their livelihood. Her father also sends some money to his parents in Nepal.

Things were normal with the family until one day, when Kritika’s mother committed suicide and this shattered the family, especially Kritika. Being the elder sibling of the two, she had more attachment with her mother. After this incident, the father decided to wind up everything in Dehradun and travel back to Nepal with the entire family. It is then PYDS intervened with support of YDP's aid of sponsoring the class in which Kritika was studying. The staff of PYDS convinced her father to send Kritika to PYDS hostel to which he agreed. Kritika stayed in the school hostel and became more focussed in her studies. She spent most of her time in the school E-Lab and did online learning.

After completing her class X, Kiritka was guided to pursue a program in Hospitality management and did a two months coaching followed by OJT from Bangalore. She is currently interning at the Marriott Renaissance Bangalore and is hopeful that she will be employed with the same hotel. This has been a learning experience for her and she is enjoying her work.

Youth Development Project, USA, has played an important role in the life of Kritika by providing support for her holistic care throughout her years at school.
